PM&R Charity has been fortunate enough to have the support of our sponsors to help a lot of struggling families with their medical expenses. Here are just a few of our recipient stories:A husband and father of three, on disability because of a long history of heart problems was then diagnosed with cancer and the medical bills were insurmountable. PM&R Charity was able to pay his co-pays for several physician's visits, lab tests, and procedures. A young boy was born with a club foot that required surgery. Post-operatively he needed an orthotic device to help his ambulation. PM&R Charity was able to assist with this endeavor. A 26 year old gentleman had a stroke at the young age of 25. He went through Physical and Speech Therapy and was doing well, but his insurance would not pay for a much needed Hand Splint to prevent his hand from contractures. PM&R Charity was able to pay for his Hand splint and he is now doing much better.A 25 year old gentleman who was involved in a motorcycle accident needed quite a bit of help since he didn't have any insurance. PM&R Charity was able to pay for a wheelchair, tracheostomy supplies and feeding tube equipment so he could go home to heal with his family.An active woman who had a horrific car accident desperately needed Physical Therapy to avoid surgery. PM&R Charity was able to get her in to Physical Therapy and back on the road to recovery.A 63 year old woman who had a stroke was unemployed and had no health coverage. She needed a few durable medical equipment items before she could go home. PM&R Charity was able to pay for her wheelchair, shower chair and bedside commode. A woman who had knee surgery, but had no health coverage had saved up enough money to pay for her surgery but had an unexpected complication and required very expensive injections to prevent blood clots. PM&R Charity was able to pay for her injections so she could go home to be with her family.21 years ago a young woman was a victim of a crime and was shot. Unfortunately, she was undocumented and was not able to get the proper medical care. Recently, she fell off her porch and had many complications due to her medical history and was unable to return to her home because it was not equipped properly. PM&R Charity was able to pay for a wheelchair, wheelchair ramp for her home, hand held shower, pressure relieve air mattress and bedside commode. She was able to return to a home adapted to her.A female patient had a stroke and as a result had a foot drop. She would trip as a result. PM&R Charity was able to fund an orthotic device to correct her gait abnormality. She was so grateful she started crying because she was able to walk again without tripping.An elderly gentlemen had a nerve entrapment in his arm at the elbow. He was without insurance at the time and in need of surgery to help prevent further nerve damage and hand weakness. PM&R Charity was able to cover some of his medical costs so that surgery was affordable. This gentleman now has his own private insurance and is very thankful that we were able to assist him in a time of need.A female in her 30's was bitten by a Brown Recluse Spider on her leg. The result was multi-organ failure and a leg amputation. She was near death but made a miraculous recovery. She was uninsured and with incredible medical issues including the need for physician care, physical therapy, vocational rehab, and a prosthesis. PM&R Charity was able to guide her in a direction to get funding for some of the above needs as well as provide her access to free physician care and physical therapy.These are just some of the cases we have been involved in. Unfortunately there will be more.In today's economy more and more people are losing their jobs, barely able to make ends meet, lack health care insurance, and are under financial duress. PM&R Charity was founded with the main purpose of helping those in need when dealing with their medical care. In today's world we are needed more than ever.
